The 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix on 8 December was decided by the constructors' title rather than the drivers'. Lando Norris won the race at Yas Marina Circuit, his fourth win of the season, and McLaren clinched their first constructors' championship since 1998. Ferrari was the only team that could still have beaten them.

Ferrari made it close on the day, with Carlos Sainz finishing second and Charles Leclerc third, but it was not enough. Norris finished the year as runner-up to Max Verstappen in the drivers' standings.

The race turned early for McLaren's other car. On the opening lap Oscar Piastri collided with Verstappen, and he recovered only to 10th. Verstappen finished sixth.

It was also a night of farewells. Lewis Hamilton finished fourth in his final race for Mercedes before his move to Ferrari. On his slowing-down lap, Norris celebrated McLaren's title over the radio and added: "Next year is going to be my year too."

Two years on, Hamilton returns to Yas Marina in red and third in the 2026 standings. The 2026 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix is on Sunday 6 December.
