Aries Spears makes his Abu Dhabi debut at Etihad Arena on 21 November
The MADtv veteran known for his celebrity impressions closes a Saturday comedy double bill on Yas Island.
Aries Spears performs in Abu Dhabi for the first time on Saturday 21 November at Etihad Arena. Gulf News reported that his set closes a double bill at 10pm, after Anubhav Singh Bassi's Hindi-language show earlier in the evening.
Spears was born in Chicago in 1975 and grew up in New York and New Jersey. He joined Fox's sketch show MADtv in its third season in 1997 and stayed until 2005, appearing in 198 episodes. Only Michael McDonald spent longer in the cast.
His MADtv years were built on impressions. He played Jay-Z, Denzel Washington, Shaquille O'Neal, Mike Tyson, Michael Jackson and Eddie Murphy, among many others, and created original characters such as Belma Buttons and Dollar Bill Montgomery.
On film he played Tee Pee Tidwell, brother of Rod Tidwell, in Jerry Maguire (1996), and appeared in The Pest (1997). Animation fans know his voice as Wizard Kelly in The Proud Family, a role he returned to for the Disney+ revival Louder and Prouder.
His stand-up specials include Hollywood, Look I'm Smiling (2011) and Comedy Blueprint (2016). Gulf News expects a set of celebrity impressions and observational comedy, and FACT Magazine notes he now works across stand-up, TV, film and podcasting.
