Mo Amer in Abu Dhabi: from Houston refugee to Netflix's Mo, Etihad Arena 6 Nov
The Palestinian-American comedian behind the Peabody-winning series Mo headlines Abu Dhabi Comedy Season on Friday 6 November.

Mo Amer headlines Etihad Arena on Friday 6 November as part of the third Abu Dhabi Comedy Season. The National reported that his date sits between Russell Peters on 25 October and Maz Jobrani the night after Amer.
Amer was born in Kuwait in 1981 to Palestinian parents. At nine he fled the Gulf War with his mother and siblings, and the family settled in Houston, Texas. That journey runs through much of his stand-up about displacement, immigration and life between cultures.
He started young. In 1999 he reached the finals of a Houston's Funniest Person contest, in 2006 he joined the Allah Made Me Funny tour, and from 2015 he toured with Dave Chappelle.
Most fans know him through Netflix. His specials there are The Vagabond (2018), Mohammed in Texas and Wild World (2025), and he co-created the semi-autobiographical series Mo with Ramy Youssef. Mo won a Peabody Award in 2023 and ended with its second season in January 2025, and Amer also played Karim in Black Adam opposite Dwayne Johnson.
Wild World deals with free speech and the experience of Arabs and Muslims in America. He told Connecticut Public the special is "intended to make you a little bit uncomfortable and reflective." Gulf Business ranked him 95th on its Top 100 Global Arabs 2026 list, and he shared an Etihad Arena bill with Maz Jobrani in 2023, according to FACT Magazine.
