Abu Dhabi Grand Prix gets its first F1 sprint in 2027, on 10-12 December
The 2027 calendar moves the Yas Marina finale a week later and adds a Saturday sprint worth eight points.

The Abu Dhabi Grand Prix will host a sprint race for the first time in 2027. Formula 1's 2027 calendar, reported by The National, puts the Yas Marina finale on 10-12 December, one week later than its usual slot, and adds Abu Dhabi to an expanded list of sprint weekends.
The change means more points on offer at the last race of the season: 25 for the Grand Prix winner and 8 for the sprint winner, a total of 33 for a driver who wins both. Sprint qualifying replaces the second practice session on Friday, and the sprint replaces third practice on Saturday.
Sprints grow from six events to 10 in 2027. The sprint venues are Bahrain, Australia, Japan, Canada, Monaco, Great Britain, Italy, Brazil, Qatar and Abu Dhabi. The season has 24 races, opening in Bahrain on 12-14 March, with Portugal and Turkey returning and the Dutch Grand Prix dropped.
The finale follows directly after Qatar on 3-5 December 2027, which is also a sprint weekend. "Every year we grow and evolve the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix," Ethara chief executive Saif Rashid Al Noaimi said when the calendar was announced. Before that, the 2026 race closes this season on Sunday 6 December at Yas Marina Circuit, with the weekend running from 3 to 6 December.
