Charlie and the Chocolate Factory musical comes to Etihad Arena in May 2027
The Roald Dahl musical makes its Abu Dhabi debut with a limited run from 14 to 23 May 2027.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is heading to Abu Dhabi. The stage musical based on Roald Dahl's novel plays Etihad Arena on Yas Island from Friday 14 May to Sunday 23 May 2027, according to Platinumlist and FACT Magazine. It is the show's first run in the city.
The story follows Charlie Bucket after he finds a golden ticket and wins a tour of Willy Wonka's factory. The score mixes original songs by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman with numbers from the 1971 film, including Pure Imagination, FACT reported.
The production promises large-scale stagecraft, with Oompa-Loompas and special effects that the producers describe as hologauze 3D technology. FACT says the creative team comes from Broadway, and the producers are Simone Genatt and Marc Routh of Broadway International Group and Broadway Asia.
The musical has a long stage history. Its Broadway production opened in 2017 and ran for more than 300 performances before touring North America until 2022, and the earlier West End run won two Olivier Awards, according to FACT. The current production is on a global tour across Asia, the Middle East and India.
The May dates add to a busy 2027 family calendar at Etihad Arena, which also has the Harry Potter film concerts in February and The Phantom of the Opera in March.
