Tamer Ashour: the career and hits behind his Abu Dhabi night with Tamer Hosny
From his 2006 debut to two Billboard Arabia awards for Haygely Mawgow, a look at the Egyptian singer heading to Etihad Arena on 17 October.
Tamer Ashour shares the Etihad Arena stage with Tamer Hosny on Saturday 17 October. Hosny gets most of the headlines, but Ashour arrives with a catalogue that has made him one of the most streamed voices in Egyptian pop.
Born in 1984, Ashour started out in 2004 and released his debut album, Sa'ab, in 2006. He joined Rotana in 2008, and later albums include Esht Maak Hekayat (2014), Khayaly (2017), Ayam (2019) and Tegy Ntrahen (2022).
His biggest moment came with Haygely Mawgow. At the 2024 Billboard Arabia Music Awards it won both Song of the Year and Top Egyptian Song. Other fan favourites include Zikrayat Kaddaba, Ekhtarna Leh, Thania Wahda and Enta Ekhtart.
The numbers back up the reputation. Forbes Middle East ranked him 16th among the most streamed Arab singers on Anghami in 2020, and he was also among the 50 most streamed artists in the region on Deezer that year.
Abu Dhabi caps a busy October. Misr Connect reports he played Baghdad on 9 October and a charity concert at Cairo's Qasr El Qobba on 11 October, while promoting his latest album, Mirayet El Hob. Expect a mix of older hits and new songs on Yas Island.
