Abus Magomedov vs Cam Rowston: UFC 333 middleweight preview
Dagestan-born Abus Magomedov puts his No. 12 ranking on the line against Australian Cam Rowston, who is 3-0 in the UFC.
Abus Magomedov and Cam Rowston meet at middleweight on the UFC 333 prelims at Etihad Arena on Saturday 24 October. UFC.com lists Magomedov at No. 12, while Rowston is unranked.
Magomedov, 36, was born in Dagestan and represents Germany. He is 29-7-1 and 5-3 in the UFC. He beat Michel Pereira on points in April 2025, was submitted by Joe Pyfer at UFC 320 that October, then returned at UFC Baku in June with a first-round guillotine of Michal Oleksiejczuk at 3:25. Cageside Press reported that he called out former champion Israel Adesanya afterwards.
He has won in this arena before. At UFC 308 at Etihad Arena in October 2024, Magomedov submitted Brunno Ferreira with an arm-triangle choke in the third round.
Rowston, 31, is an Australian known as "Battle Giraffe". He is 15-3 and 3-0 in the UFC, and Sport24 counts seven straight wins, with 13 of his 15 victories coming by finish. In the UFC he stopped Andre Petroski in the first round in Perth in September 2025, stopped Cody Brundage in the second round at UFC 325 in Sydney in January, and beat Robert Bryczek on all three cards in Perth in May.
This is the biggest step up of Rowston's career against a ranked opponent with eight UFC fights behind him. Magomedov's grappling and finishing instincts against Rowston's pace and power should decide who moves forward in the division.
