Amr Diab's career: Nour El Ain, Tamally Maak and seven World Music Awards
Ahead of his Coca-Cola Arena show on 7 November, the milestones behind more than four decades of Egyptian pop.

Amr Diab plays Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai on 7 November, The National reports. Born in Port Said on 11 October 1961, he released his debut album, Ya Tareeq, in 1983 and graduated from the Cairo Academy of Arts with a music degree in 1986.
His international breakthrough came with Nour El Ain in 1996, which brought his first World Music Award. Amarain followed in 1999 with duets with Cheb Khaled and Angela Dimitriou, and then Tamally Maak in 2000, a song Rolling Stone ranked first on its 2024 list of the best Arabic pop songs of the 21st century.
The awards kept coming. Wikipedia credits him with seven World Music Awards, and in 2016 Guinness World Records recognised him for the most wins as Best Selling Middle Eastern Artist. His 2014 album Shoft El Ayam reached number one on Billboard's World Albums chart, a first for an Arabic performer.
He also tried cinema early on, in El Afareet (1989), Ice Cream in Gleam (1992) and a 1993 film with Omar Sharif and Yousra, before focusing on singing. His labels tell the rest of the story: Delta Sound and Alam El Phan, Rotana from 2004 to 2015, his own Nay for Media, and Sony Music since 2024.
The recent run is strong. Makanak (2023, 12 songs) and Ebtadena (2025, 15 tracks) both charted in full on the Billboard Arabic Hot 100, and in December 2025 Scoop Empire reported that he had reached 43 weeks at number one on the Billboard Arabic Artist 100, beating Sherine Abdel-Wahab's record of 42.
Dubai has long been part of his story. His official website notes that he hosted the first Google Hangout in the Middle East during a Dubai performance in 2012, and The National expects songs such as Nour El Ain and Tamally Maak in the November set.
