Buena Vista Social Club Legacy at Dubai Opera on 24 January 2027
Ibrahim Ferrer Jr and laúd player Barbarito Torres bring the sound of Havana's most famous album to Dubai.

Cuban music comes to Dubai Opera on Sunday 24 January 2027. The National lists the Buena Vista Social Club Legacy Concert with Ibrahim Ferrer Jr and Barbarito Torres, and Khaleej Times describes the night as an Afro-Cuban concert under the title Una Noche en La Habana.
The original Buena Vista Social Club album was recorded in Havana in 1996 at the EGREM studios, when Ry Cooder travelled to Cuba with producer Nick Gold, PBS recounts. One of its voices was Ibrahim Ferrer, born in Santiago in 1927, who was shining shoes for a living when he was found for the sessions.
Barbarito Torres played on those sessions on the laúd, a 12-string instrument from the lute family, and his solo on El Cuarto de Tula is one of the album's best-known moments, according to PBS.
Ferrer's son, Ibrahim Ferrer Jr, tours a tribute to the group. Mexico City's Chilango says his repertoire includes Candela, Dos Gardenias, El Cuarto de Tula and Chan Chan, and that he has more than 20 years on stage, four albums and over 3,000 concerts behind him.
