Hiba Tawaji and Ibrahim Maalouf bring À La Française to Dubai Opera
The Lebanese singer and the Grammy-nominated trumpeter, who are married, share one night of French song and jazz on 27 November.

Hiba Tawaji invites Ibrahim Maalouf to Dubai Opera on Friday 27 November for À La Française, a one-night show presented by Live Nation Middle East. Gulf News describes it as a blend of French musical heritage and modern arrangements, moving between classical, jazz and chanson.
Tawaji, born in Beirut in 1987, rose to fame working with producer Oussama Rahbani. French audiences know her from The Voice France in 2015, where she reached the semi-finals on Mika's team, and as Esmeralda in the 2016 Paris revival of the musical Notre-Dame de Paris. She also sang Jasmine in the French version of Disney's 2019 Aladdin.
Maalouf, born in Beirut in 1980, plays the quarter-tone trumpet invented by his father, Nassim Maalouf, which lets the instrument play Arabic maqams. He won the César for best original score in 2017, and his album Queen of Sheba with Angélique Kidjo made him the first Lebanese instrumentalist nominated for a Grammy.
The two married in 2020, which gives this pairing an extra personal note. Gulf News also points to Tawaji's performance with the Radio France Philharmonic Orchestra under Gustavo Dudamel at the reopening of Notre-Dame de Paris. It is one of four headline shows across Dubai and Abu Dhabi that Friday, so plan travel time if you are heading to Downtown Dubai.
